IV Cannulation & Radiographic Contrast Media


The ASMIRT IV Cannulation and Radiographic Contrast Media course is made up of several stages including pre-requisite training, self-paced on-line learning and a practical component workshop via Zoom.

Stages

1. Completion of pre-requisite training

  • Australian Hand Hygiene
  • Basic Life Support
*See Pre-requisite training tab for information on free on-line courses. You will be required to upload your completion certificates when registering for IV Cannulation and Contrast Media training.

2. Completion of the pre-recorded training webinar

As soon as you register you will be sent the link for the on-line section of training and the quiz. The webinar and pre-reading will take around 2½ - 3 hours. 

3. Successful completion, with a mark of 100%, of the post webinar quiz

You may re-take the quiz if required. Once all three stages have been completed participants will be eligible to attend the Zoom Practical Workshop.

4. Practical Workshop via Zoom

During the registration process you will be asked for
  • copies of your Certificates of Completion for the Australian Hand Hygiene and Basic Life Support training
  • your glove size
  • your postal address suitable for a parcel delivery
Please make sure this size is for a tight fitting glove. As soon as you register you will be sent the link for the on-line section of training and the quiz along with a pack of materials for the practical component. You may watch the video and complete the quiz whenever you are ready but these must be done prior to the date of the Practical Workshop you have selected. You may re-take the quiz if required.

All necesary paperwork is supplied as part of the Training Pack mailed to participants.

5. Certificate in IV Cannulation and Radiographic Contrast Media

Once the practical workshop has been successfully completed participants will be eligible for a Certificate in IV Cannulation and Radiographic Contrast Media.

Requirements for a Certificate in IV Cannulation:
  • Completion of a minimum of 10 successful supervised cannulations
  • Supervisors written verification of minimum of 10 successful supervised cannulations
  • Sign off by a supervisor of the Peripheral venuous access device skills assessment checklist
  • There is no additional charge for this certificate
