Session 1: Part I AYA: Overview of the Adolescents and Young Adults with Cancer (AYA) Service and Clinical Case Challenges

This informative session will showcase the AYA service which is available across NSW Oncology Treatment Centres.  

Presented by a Radiation Oncologist Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) member, Medical Radiation Practitioner's will be equipped with the latest information about AYA services and potentially how this may impact on their clinical practice.

 

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

•            Describe the age range for patients included under the AYA Service and the incidence of cancer in this group.

•            Discuss considerations for this group of patients;

o            Normal adolescent development

o            Communication

o            Survivorship

o            Psychosocial aspects of care

o            Paediatric versus adult services 

o            Youth Cancer Services in Australia

o            Discuss late side effects

•            Discuss two clinical presenations and challenges that may arise.
